I pointed these out to Mike and he has over the whole month (not just one weekend) focussed on removing ginger, agapanthus and an invasive bamboo. He has filled two skips with plant rubbish, including some tree pruning.

He plans to plant next April, to replace these with plants which will attract birds (we have native bush very close to us). I am impressed with the enthusiasm Mike has shown in dealing with these invasive weeds, and the huge amount of work he has done.
