Around 50,000 wilding conifers were cleared, including Pinus contorta, douglas fir, larch and Pinus ponderosa – most of which had spread onto public conservation land from a nearby shelterbelt. In one quarter hectare area, over 3000 young wilding trees were rapidly dealt to by the experienced volunteers.
It wasn’t all work and no play, though. Late Saturday afternoon the BBQ was fired up with wild game on the menu, plenty of previous workday stories and lots of laughs shared. The weekend was also supported by Weedbusters with several give-aways presented to the groups.
