Weedy Quiz! - Questions.

All questions are read out to students. Students write responses (with the exception of question 1, where their verbal answers are recorded) on answer sheet.

1-Weeds :

What is a weed?
Students answer verbally. Record responses as a 'brain storm', and record the general proportion / number of students who respond

2. Statements about weeds

Students circle True or False for the following statements

General:

  1. All weeds have been introduced from other countries
  2. There are native New Zealand plants that are weeds
  3. There are trees that are weeds
  4. There are no garden plants that are weeds
  5. There are weeds that grow underwater
  6. Weeds are not pretty

Where weeds grow:

  1. Weeds grow in the bush
  2. Weeds grow at the beach
  3. Weeds grow in the garden
  4. Weeds grow on mountains
  5. Weeds grow in rivers
  6. Weeds grow in the city
If students can think of other places weeds grow encourage them to add on answer sheet next to 'Others'

3-Name a weed you know

Students write on answer sheet.
If they can think of more than one encourage them to add it to the answer sheet next to 'Others'

4. Statements about weeds

Students circle True or False for the following statements

Weed spread:

  1. Weeds spread by being eaten by a bird
  2. Weeds spread by being washed out to sea
  3. Weeds spread by being carried off by insects
  4. Weeds spread by catching a ride on our clothes
  5. Weeds spread by being thrown over the fence
  6. Weeds spread by being blown by the wind
If students can think of other ways weeds might spread encourage them to add on answer sheet next to 'Others'
