Changepoint Church Land Care
Region: Bay of Plenty
Award Category: Bay of Plenty
Year: 2014
Changepoint Church owns 3.3 hectares of land and over the last several years we have been progressively clearing the land of weeds and planting in native shrubs.
Woolly nightshade, gorse, wattle, privet, Japanese honeysuckle, convolulus and willows are the main weeds we’ve had to deal with. Some areas we have had machines to help us, but most areas have been hand cleared and then planted out.
The work has been lead by a core group of around ten, supported by 50 or more of the church congregation on our winter plant days. These plant days can see a 1000 or more plants planted to progress the landscaping project.
We are far from finished yet but the volunteer effort to date is worthy of recognition.
I have emailed separately a booklet and map describing our project.
