Profile
Project Island Song Weedbusters, founded 2009, is still going strong. We work mostly on Urupukapuka and Moturua, the largest islands in the eastern Bay of Islands. Moth plant is the major problem, as it blows over from the mainland. Several old garden sites have one or more of the following nasties - kahili ginger, jasmine, agapanthus, ladder fern, African club moss, bamboo, periwinkle, giant reed, tradescantia. Kahili ginger has spread well beyond the garden fence. In the kanuka/manuka scrub there is tobacco weed and brush wattle and, particularly in the valley bottoms where native plants are regenerating, we have Mexican devil and mist flower. In other words, a fairly typical Northland list!
